I just remembered I had this blog site today and so much has moved on from a technology perspective that it was interesting to read back. Google Wave that I enthusiastically blogged about has made way for Google + which is now a serious Facebook competitor and has made Facebook work even harder and faster to progress its vision.
I enabled my Facebook timeline last week and its a bit eerie but I think I like it. Gone are the long days and nights on compiling playlists on a cassette player and sifting through all your photo’s, gluestick in one hand and scrapbook in another. All of these things are now at your not so sticky fingertips and a touch of a button away.
Whereas my presence on Google + has definitely been more about connections with my industry and work friends rather than non work friends and family. Some defected from Facebook to Google + and some have since returned or exist in both worlds. Which one will prevail is the question of the future.

No this is not ESP but technology based sixth sense and just like some of us remember life without the Internet, could this be the next big thing to blow up that we just can’t live without?
T-Mobile returns with some celebrity backing in just the right dose with Pink and one of my favourite pastimes of singing your heart out. Great timing with summer around the corner and lovely to see so many happy faces on the television.
I finally joined Twitter (follow me) and then Facebook after much pressure. It’s been over a month now of Facebooking and it’s going relatively well. I’ve trawled through some memorable pics of our good times and even found an old company photo of a day on the Jersey Shore. Yes I was a late starter but with so many marketing emails using share with your network links or starting to, I felt I had to go there!
In these days of recession (it’s now official) we all need a little pick me up. The new T-mobile advert that’s slowly crept up on me in snippets on the television and on billboards certainly does exactly that. Here it is in it’s entirety.
This was a lovely moment of our brief honeymoon in October in Nice, France. Recommended for ease of walking everywhere; good art and antiques; a mix of rich and poor; north African culture in St. Etienne; cheese and wine; the lovely Promenades and the views! Close enough to get to Monaco and Cannes on train too.
The last story on Channel 4 news tonight was that Groove Armada have left their record company and are now being sponsored by Bacardi for the next year. I find this a fascinating development in where the fate of flailing record companies lies and very interesting to see how the element of a corporate sponsor will work out for Bacardi’s branding. There is definitely an obvious connection of the two attracting a similar youthful party loving crowd to each of their camps. Interestingly, Groove Armada’s commitment only extends to about four new tracks and six global gigs during this period. Will their weekend festival in London now be renamed the ‘Bacardi’ Lovebox Weekender?
HMV finally are cottoning on to social networking. Their site getcloser.com is released in beta and it takes a few weeks to get through a series of emails, waiting for an invite and then to finally sign-up. It differentiates itself from pure music networks such as last.fm by combining people, film, tv and music and connecting them with the knowledge of its users who can contribute content and make friends with each other. Getcloser.com is launched live in the summer.
Social networks galore, will this one succeed? Some interesting changed ahead for LinkedIn and I’m liking the new look and feel too
And so as one era ends with the passing of Netscape, another begins with Flock. We spent far too long this Friday thinking of meeting room names for our new and improved office. One of the ideas in keeping with being a technology based company was naming our six rooms after browsers. We were stuck at five names and now I’ve discovered the existence of Flock and duly downloaded onto my laptop. I shall try it out and update this entry with my thoughts in due course but so far I’m liking the clean look and it’s forward thinking in bringing together our many Web 2.0 and social services. First impressions are that there is a slight learning curve to go through to really understand all the functionality but there are lots of hints along the way to help you.
We know that in the UK at least that the Google homepage is very popular amongst web users so it will be interesting to see how market share may shift with the Yahoo! search engine being the preferred affiliate with Flock.
So far I have added my flickr page and YouTube and it looks pretty cool…
